Anne Pfautsch is an art historian, curator, writer, and lecturer based in Germany.
She received her PhD in Art History from Kingston University London. Her dissertation, OSTKREUZ – Agency of Photographers: Tracing the Legacy of the German Democratic Republic in Post-Socialist Photography and Exhibition Making, was awarded the Jutta-Held-Preis by the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte in 2023.
She holds an MSc with distinction in Modern and Contemporary Art: History, Criticism and Curating from the University of Edinburgh and a BA in Art History and Politics from Leipzig University.
Alongside her academic research, Anne curates exhibitions and festivals that engage with the intersections of photography, memory, and contemporary visual culture. Recent projects include Memory in Suspension for the photo festival f/stop in Leipzig in 2027.
She teaches contemporary art history and photography and is currently a lecturer at Leipzig University and the Academy of Fine Arts in Düsseldorf.
Her writing has appeared in exhibition catalogues and academic publications on photography, exhibition histories, and post-socialist visual culture. Most recently, she published the monograph OSTKREUZ – Agency of Photographers: Reframing East German Identity, Memory, and the Politics of Display (Peter Lang, 2026).
